Daniel is a big confident goalie who already has a winning pedigree at the age of 18. Daniel has a gold medal from the IIHF U17 and Ivan Hlinka U18 world tournaments. Formally a 2nd round draft pick of the Belleville Bulls and most recently a 3rd round draft pick of the Carolina Hurricanes Daniel has made is OHL home in Oshawa with the Generals. Currently the Oshawa Generals are under resurgence under new head coach DJ Smith and with solid consistent performances from Altshuller find themselves on top of the OHL Eastern Conference.

Technically –

Altshuller is a big goalie with a low wide stance similar to J.S. Giguere or James Reimer. Altshuller has been working consistently over the last two seasons with Oshawa goalie coach Mike Lawrence who is known to favor the Allaire “block style” of goaltending.

Altshuller has strong lateral crease movement, solid angles and challenges the shooter on every shot. Altshuller seldom finds himself outside of the blue paint but with a good technical base, tight movements and great size Altshuller makes tough saves look easy.

Feet – Strong pushes, solid edges

Butterfly – wide, tight a staple in Altshuller’s arsenal

Hands – low, tight to body, have been a weak point at times

Stick – good puck movement/handling could be stronger on backhand

Body – shoulders forward, good balance center shifts on most pucks
